December 20th, 2008Someone ate my MacBook
December 16th, 2008I’ve had my MacBook already for quite a while. If I am not mistaken, it’s going to be almost 2 years in February. I love my MacBook soo much, I can even say proudly, without any fear, I am Windows-FREE
This means for those who doesn’t understand, I don ‘t run Windows on any of my computers anymore and try to avoid Windows. However, there is one little problem that has recently giving me a headache. The right front side of my MacBook, palm rest area, has developed a crack. But there is even more, the palm protector, moshi, corner is missing. It’s unbelievable; I have been taking care of my MacBook very well. Most of the people always wonder how come my MacBook looks to white and shiny.

I did a little research on the almighty web and apparently numbers of people are having the same exact problem as I have. Not to mentioned that my girlfriend, a mac lover too, got the same issue. It seems that the crack is under Apple Care warranty. But I am afraid that my Apple Care is no longer valid. This sucks!

Thoughts For Christmas Commercials
December 12th, 2008Another year is almost passed, and we are once again entering the Holiday season. Children are getting ready for holidays, stores are having special sales of the year, families are making Christmas plans, grandpa’s are getting ready to tell Christmas stories to his grandchildren and I am standing looking around this world. The world that is created by God and changed by people. The world where Christmas is all about selling, buying, earning and receiving. Did anyone else notice the songs played on the airwaves? We are living in the world where Christmas spirit is being twisted by commercial activities. Do the world knows why we are celebrating Christmas?
Few days ago I was talking to Vijay, a friend from India studying in VUA. He told me that some churches in India are not going to celebrate Christmas to show solidarity of the victims in Mumbai.
“Whole India is mourning the deaths in the terror attacks and there is no celebration mood right now. Mumbai is like our home. Those died in the attack are our family members. At our homes we don’t celebrate when our family member dies. Hence there won’t be any party,” filmmaker Ashok Pandit said.
Did they all forget what Christmas is really all about? Is having no celebration mood, means not going to the church or does it simply means having no presents or fireworks?
One of the interesting point that Vijay made is that the world back then, when Jesus came to the world and now is not much different. Sure, things have changed. But the reason why Jesus came is still the same. We need the Lord now as much as we needed Him back then.
To hibernate or not to hibernate?
November 18th, 2008Lately, I have been working on a project. I can’t tell you much about it, but once it’s done, I will open my heart with you guys. The development is going slow nowadays. This has to do with many assignments for the University and the zevenheulenloop contest. There are times when I just want to give up Hibernate. Hibernate is a open source java persistence framework project. It helps manage my objects in the database. But today, this question has been on my mind: To hibernate or not to hibernate? I have been wondering, why did I choose to go with Hibernate? I am sure there are tons of other persistence frameworks out there. And I am pretty sure the development will go faster if I don’t have to look up for every single small thing in the manual of hibernate. Why can’t they make it easier… oh well, I am still a beginner with hibernate…
What Ajin Means
September 13th, 2008You are usually the best at everything … you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic “Type A” personality.
You are fair, honest, and logical. You are a natural leader, and people respect you. You never give up, and you will succeed… even if it takes you a hundred tries. You are rational enough to see every part of a problem. You are great at giving other people advice.
You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It’s easy to get you excited… which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don’t stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.
You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people. You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts. You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals
Hmm it makes sense… of course I have my own meaning… but it comes pretty close to this. If you want to know what is the meaning of your name, check What’s Your Name’s Hidden Meaning.
Uilenstede Welcome Card
September 11th, 2008I created my very first welcome card! well, it is basically a card with welcome greetings on it. At first I wasn’t sure if the card was really appropriate. But after showing it to some of my friends, they really liked it. Anyway, just let me know what you guys think about. I actually stayed up very late just to finish this card, instead of writing my Function Point Analysis essay….
A day in MediaMarkt in Amsterdam
September 5th, 2008Last wednesday, I visited MediaMarkt in Amsterdam. This place is enormous. I can spend my whole day just looking around. MediaMarkt is a electronics shop, something similar to BestBuy. Although this place is very big and nice, there is one thing I dislike. We are not allowed to bring our bags in the store. Unfortunately, I don’t have that much time to argue with the security guard. i was looking for a internal hard disk for MacBook. Below you will see a transcript of a conversation between me and one of the salesman in the MediaMarkt:
me: My macbook hard disk broke. I am looking for internal laptop hard disk. I cannot find any. Do you still have some on stock?
salesman: yes we do. Hmm where do we keep harddisk?
me: somewhere there, computer storage section?
salesman: yes yes, i knew it.
me: okay… (if you say so)walked to the computer storage section and salesman started to search for the hard disk
salesman: it seems that we don’t have any.
me: you don’t have it on stock, somewhere in the storage?
salesman: no we don’t. But you can use external hard disk.
me: why do I need external hard disk? I don’t even have an operating system. My hard disk broke remember?
salesman: you can install Microsoft Windows on the external hard disk. You don’t have to buy internal hard disk.
me: and if i am traveling I have to carry the external disk, right?
salesman: right!
me: hmmm no thanks.walked away slowly with a strange look….
I don’t know where they get these people. C’mon advising me to buy a external hard disk instead of internal hard disk, this is crazy! At least they should train some people. Or hire someone with some computer knowledge. Or get some Apple Genius!
iPhone Comic Reader: iComic for firmware v2.0.x
August 31st, 2008Recently, I came across a new application for the iPhone. I have been looking for a comic/manga reader for the iPhone for quite some time. I’ve already tried some of the most famous comic reader for the iPhone, such as Clickwheel Comic Reader or iVerse. However, I just can’t get the feeling of reading a comic. But anyway, I stumbled across a new iPhone comic reader recently, named the iComic. iComic is a native iPhone application that allows you to read comics, manga, etc… in a .ZIP format. Yeah yeah, I know that nowadays people use a file format, called .CBR, or Comic Book RAR. But .ZIP is not bad, at least not for me ![]()

This application is awesome! To navigate through a comic/manga book, simply click the right or left bottom corner! If you want to go back to the main menu, tap on the top left of the screen. This can be done regardless whether you are on portrait or landscape mode. And the weirdest thing is Gravity Page Slide. The idea is to navigate with iPhone’s accelerometer. But somehow this function doesn’t work for me. Anyway, I am more than happy to read manga ![]()
At first it was a bit confusing to operate this application, since everything is in Japanese. But don’t worry, I have translated the menus to English for those who are unable to read Japanese.
Before I forget, this application is also available for iPhone 2G/3G firmware 2.0. Just make sure that you have it jailbreaked!
Download:iComic | download iComic English translation for v013
To install the translation, just simply place the English.lproj directory in /Applications/iComic.app/ directory. If that doesn’t work, you can replace the content of the English.lproj with the Japanese.lproj directory.
Completely disabling sound in iPhone
August 21st, 2008
A couple of months ago, someone dropped the brand new iPhone. Nothing happened except the ringer-switch is not working anymore. Although the ringer-switch button can switch, the function of the switch doesn’t work. The only possible solution to have the iPhone in a silient-mode is to change the volume level or the ringtone in the Sound Preference panel. But doing this all the time is extremely annoying (partly due to laziness)…
So therefore, to find a solution for this problem I started looking for a software-based solution that does exactly what the ringer-switch does, or more-or-less. After some while, having absolutely no luck in finding, I started to think that training my fingers is maybe the way to go…
That is until I found the power of the launchctl command. Read the rest of this entry »
