Fitbit has arrived

The much anticipated FitBit has finally arrived. It took 6 days to travel from America to The Netherlands and stayed 1 day in the customs here in the Netherlands. The reason why I purchased it is because I am currently working on a project involves with sleep and this FitBit has the ability to measure your sleep, which is pretty similar in the concept of what I am working on, so I was curious about this little thing. So far this little product is pretty cool.

Meet the family

You place the FitBit in a soft wrist band while you sleep and it will record the time you took to fall asleep, how many times you woke up at night, and the bed time. Basically Fitbit uses the same technology that has been used in sleep research and fitnesses, namely the accelerometers, which can measure your activity and the number of steps (pedometer). If you want to measure your activity, you can clip it on your belt, your pocket, etc.. You will have your very own Nike+Ipod sensor ;)

And so it is

Take my heart, I lay it down
At the feet of you whose crowned
Take my life, I’m letting go
I lift it upto You who’s throned
And I will worship You, Lord
Only You, Lord
And I will bow down before You
Only You Lord
Take my fret, take my fear
All I have, I’m leaving here
Be all my hopes, be all my dreams
You’re my delights, be my everything
And It’s just you and me here now
Only you and me here now
You should see the view
When it’s only You

New guitar added to the family

Gibson les paul melody makerOver the years I have played with a fanatic semi-acoustic guitar every sunday. Of course, I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll with it, but soon I have realized that it is time for me to move one step further. And last week I purchased my very first electric guitar! Any it is not just a guitar, but an original Gibson ;)
A little history about the guitar I bought:
Gibson’s “Golden Era”—the late 1950s and early 1960s—is best known for the emergence of the company’s iconic Les Paul Standard. But the Les Paul wasn’t the company’s best-selling guitar during this historic period. That title belongs to the legendary Melody Maker. Today’s Melody Maker is a loving tribute to the style and spirit of the 1959 edition of that beloved guitar. It is also remains one of Gibson’s most popular models, as well as its most affordable USA-made guitar.
Just as the snipped text version above says, it’s affordable USA-made guitar, and that’s my queue to buy it ;)

Problem printing in Microsoft Excel

Lately at work, we are having some problem printing an Microsoft Excel document to Brother HL-2030/2040 printer in Windows XP SP3. However, the printer works perfectly in other application, such as Microsoft Word, Notepad, or even a test page from the settings. But printing from Microsoft Excel just does not seem to be working. When pressing the print button, you will notice that everything went well, but strangely nothing is coming out from the printer.

And something more extraordinary, when selecting another printer in Microsoft Excel, such as a network printer, it works perfectly. This problem seems only to be occurring with Brother HL-2030/2040 in Microsoft Excel.

After I played with every setting I can think of and installing and updating Microsoft Office countless time, I found something very interesting. When making a slight change on the Brother HL-2030/2040 printer settings, e.g. another default printer instead of Brother printer, or changing the drivers, surprisingly it works again in Microsoft Excel…for a while!

Until now, I am not able to find what is causing this problem. But to make sure that users can perform their work, I created a batch file that changes the default printer and reset it back to it again. This does allows user to print document again from Excel, but it must be run every time when the printer does not work. This might not be the cleanest solution, but it works temporally. If another knows a solution, just let me know. Reinstalling windows is currently out of question :P
